The purpose of the call was to introduce a new Mastermind group for attorneys serving entrepreneurs and other small business clients based on the incredibly successful and flexible monthly flat fee service model Houchin has implemented in his law practice over the past year.

Hello friends,

I’m proud to introduce a project that I’ve been planning for a couple years– The Space Between Center for Creative Spirit in Business. This is a new venture motivated by the understanding that I’m on the planet to help people reach their full potential through creative business.

The Space Between Center will that purpose through at least two channels:
1. Helping entrepreneurs directly as their attorney, and
2. Helping attorneys work more effectively with entrepreneurs.

The name is inspired by verse 11 of the Tao Te Ching:

We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it's the center hole
that makes the wagon move.

We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.

We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.

This verse always inspires me to slow down, think differently, and look at ideas from a different perspective. That’s what The Space Between Center is all about–looking at business differently–creatively.

Last May, I started engaging clients differently–practically eliminating hourly billing from my practice. My clients absolutely love the new model and now I can sleep at night knowing that next month’s bills are covered, even if I don’t sign a new client for the rest of the month. For the previous 5 years, I never knew how I’d pay the rent from month to month.

I’m sure you know the feeling.

Moving to the year-long flat-monthly-fee model we’ll discuss on the call changed my life in the first month of implementation.

I know it can do the same for you.

The model is simple. I’m no genius and I don’t claim to have all the answers. I didn’t graduate first in my law school class and I’ve not yet accumulated a million bucks. I HAVE however figured out how to serve entrepreneurs in a wonderful win-win model that I’d like to share with you, as just the first part of the program we’ll share on the call.

As lawyers, we have the power to make a difference in our communities. We’re some of the most educated people in town, and we have the practical skills to bring entrepreneurial dreams into reality. Unfortunately, we get stuck in the broken hourly-rate mindset. Heck, even when we’re talking flat project fees we’re normally estimating by the number of hours the work will take.

That mindset doesn’t work for small businesses, nor their lawyers.

The program we’ll discuss will show you the way out of this trading-time-for-money trap and illuminate the path to freedom in your practice and your personal life.
